In a country at war, such as Ukraine, this question is one of the most difficult. Many fathers are soldiers at the front and many mothers have stayed behind with their children. Of the 45 million inhabitants, around 6.5 million people have fled abroad. However, there are also many internally displaced persons from eastern Ukraine who are now living temporarily in the west of the country. Igor Sauchuk has been returning to his home town of Luzhany again and again since he himself fled from the former Soviet Union to the USA in 1989. He last visited the town, which is not far from the Romanian border, in June. To mark Child Protection Day, he had rehearsed a play and performed it in the Kulturhaus. Children who live next door in the refugee home were also on stage. When they first heard about the theater project, they were eager to take part. Igor, who had already rehearsed and performed many plays with children in Switzerland and Ukraine, immediately got the children involved. They enjoyed performing the play for their parents and all the visitors. Igor always conveys Christian messages. At the end of the performance, chocolates from Switzerland were distributed to all the visitors.

In September, Igor returned to Luzhany and rehearsed more plays with local children as well as childrens from the refugee shelter.

We are grateful to the Swiss aid organization Osteuropa Mission (OEM), through their support we were able to buy goods for daily needs to some of the 700 refugees of all ages.

We would like to thank all generous donors!
